Named a “one-woman dynamo” by The Boston Globe and Boston’s Best 2018 "Creative Catalyst" by The Improper Bostonian, Maria Finkelmeier is a percussion performer, composer, educator, and arts entrepreneur. Maria is an international touring artist, having performed as a soloist, member of numerous chamber ensembles, and percussionist with in the Baltic Sea Philharmonic. She is co-founder and principal of MASARY Studios, a sound, light, and performance collective creating site-specific immersive experiences, and founder of Kadence Arts, a Boston-based non-profit organization bringing creating an eco-system of art making and learning through drumming. Maria has taken contemporary percussion performance from concert halls and venues throughout the US and Europe, to unexpected spaces such as Fenway Park’s Green Monster, the Tree Hotel in Harads, Sweden, Arnold Arboretum of Harvard University, and the Frost Ice Bar.

As a composer, Maria has been commissioned by the Boston Center for the Arts, TEDx Cambridge, Illuminus Festival, BLINK Cincinnati, and National Parks Service with MASARY Studios, as well as the Outside the Box Festival, New Gallery Concert Series, Quartet Kalos, i = u festival, and Ensemble Evolution. In 2018, she released her debut album “A Line that Terminates at the Present,” which according to I Care if Your Listen “skillfully weaves together her talent as an improviser with her technical prowess as a percussionist into a lively narrative.”

Dedicated to shaping the next generation of creators and arts administrators, Maria is a lecturer at Northeastern University’s Music Industry Leadership program, and from 2012 - 2015 she served as the program manager of the Entrepreneurial Musicianship Department at New England Conservatory. Prior to rooting in New England, Maria spent three years in Northern Sweden at the Piteå Institution for Music and Media as an artist in residence. She received a Bachelor of Music degree from The Ohio State University and a Master of Music degree from Eastman School of Music, where she was granted a Performer’s Certificate in recognition of her artistic achievements and Arts Leadership Certificate. Maria is Yamaha Performing Artist, and additionally endorses Grover Pro Percussion, Vic Firth, and Remo.
